Turn Off WiFi On Router: A Best Way To Protect From EMF Radiation
We are living in devices proliferated society today – smart devices to smart homes to smart cities we live in. Connecting to the internet is almost inevitable to living in a highly connected world. And the mode of connecting to these smart devices is wireless for convenience. But one daunting truth is that one of the major sources of dangerous electromagnetic (EMF) radiation that’s dangerous to our health comes from WiFi. So how can you protect yourself and your family from EMF WiFi? Would turn off WiFi at your home be safer? Getting puzzled on how to live without WiFi.
Truth is that it’s almost impossible to live without WiFi nowadays. Though in this article we’ll explore methods to protect yourself while using the internet. An attempt has been made to present a way to use the internet while protecting your household from EMF.
First, Let Us Understand The Dangers of WiFi Radiations
WiFi systems emit electromagnetic radiation in the low-gigahertz frequency. Depending on the level and the length of exposure, WiFi radiation risks can range from insomnia and headaches to tumors. In a Time magazine article, Joel Moskowitz, director of the Center for Family and Community Health at the University of California, Berkeley says “We have animal studies suggesting even low-level exposures to the kind of radio wave radiation associated with Wi-Fi could have a variety of negative health effects”.
A Known Alternative to WiFi is Wired Internet
It is a fact that a wired internet connection is safer and faster than WiFi. Hence replacing the WiFi with wired internet whenever feasible and convenient is the best solution to mitigate risks of WiFi radiations.
There are two ways you can get a wired internet. You can ask for professional help to install the network setup for you. Or, if you’re the type of person to do everything by yourself, then you can buy and do your own installation. In that case, keep reading. We’ll provide the full installation method, plus how to turn off WiFi on the router below.
Necessary Equipment to go for Wired Internet
To install a wired internet connection, you’ll need to get the following …
- The first piece is the Modem. These days our internet provider by default provides the modem. Modem and a router are needed to download and upload files, streaming movies to devices, and play online games. There are two main types of modems: DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and cable. The cable modem is most popular as it is faster. Here you need one that can function while the WiFi is off. Two recommended options are Arris/Motorola brand modems and in particular the Arris Motorola SB6121 cable modems.
- Then comes Ethernet cables plus an Ethernet switch. An Ethernet switch enables you to connect many internet cables together. This’ll allow your internet connection to reach every room in your house and on a multitude of devices. Count the devices that need an internet connection, and make sure that the switch has enough ports to all of your devices. Two recommendations for the ports to get better coverage are TP-Link has a 16-port switch that retails for $70. If you further need more ports, TP-Link 48-Port Gigabit Ethernet is an option.
- Get a cable for every device in the house. You can also share cables to multiple devices. The type of ethernet cables to look for are reinforced or shielded cables – which are better equipped to reduce EMF radiation.
Setting Up the Cables
It’s time to plug in your devices. Start by plugging your modem in. Follow the modem manufacturer instructions if they are available. Once the modem is connected to the internet, plug the Ethernet cable to a modem port, then connect it to the Ethernet switch.
Next, get the cables and connect them to the switch’s port. You might need to hide the cables if they’re circling your house. You can extend them behind furniture (recommended). Alternatively, you can tape them to a wall (less convenient, and may ruin household looks, and not convenient with children around). Also, consider installing the EMF detectors to track and monitor EMF radiation levels.
But if Appearance is Still an Issue…
You can still layout cables behind the walls and just install ports for each room. You might need a renovation job though (which makes it less of a DIY solution).
Next Step – Connecting Each Device
After laying out the cables in each room, you can connect them to your PCs, laptops, PS4s and any device with an internet port. Cell phones might be your only exception. But you can always use the internet on PCs or laptops while staying away from cell phone EMF radiation.
Final Step – Turn Off WiFi
Once you install your cable connection, turn off WiFi on all devices (including your modem). Turning the latter’s WiFi off depends on the device you’re using. We recommend checking the device’s user manual (or contacting customer service).
Final Thoughts…
The wired internet is much better than WiFi in many ways. When it comes to speed and performance, wired connections are the best option. They’re the best way to protect you and your family from harmful EMF radiation. You’re also using a connection that’s more reliable than that of WiFi. So you’ll have few problems with signal distance and strength.
Finally, it’s more secure. You’re less likely to have others try to illegally access your internet. That’s all for now. Hope this was beneficial for you. If you have any questions, be sure to ask.
