Effects of EMF on Pets: Protection Tips
Since the start of the pandemic, many of us have become inseparable from our devices participating in the daily grind of school, office, or even just Netflix. Similarly, concerns about EMF radiation have also gone through the roof. Kid’s bedrooms, living rooms, and other radiation potent areas of the house have been dealt with. However, we often overlook our furry friends who have been stuck alongside us. Yes, I/m taking about effects of EMF on pets.
Although no conclusive evidence has been introduced there are some things we do know. It’s been shown that when rats face consistent exposure to RF-EMF radiation they can face heart or even brain tumors. In fact, due to the commonalities between rats and human biological processes, EMF radiation studies have been further conducted specifically focusing on humans showing similar yet dangerous results. Thus, it only makes sense our pets face a significant risk of EMF radiation as well.
Animal Wellness Magazine states that electro-pollution from cell phones, power lines, microwaves and more is having an adverse impact on the health of our pet.
Now you must be wondering what you, as a pet owner, can do to keep your little (or big) friends safe. Lucky for you, we have a comprehensive guide filled with golden nuggets to better help you protect your pet.
Armour Up
The ideal way to reduce exposure would be if everyone was able to run away into a cabin in the woods and live an electronics-free lifestyle. But considering that’s not feasible we can give you the next best option. If you’ve been here for a while, you’ve probably implemented many of the EMF protection tips we’ve given you. Truth is, reducing the general EMF exposure in the house will benefit your pet greatly too. Check out our previous articles to see how you can armor up the whole house for a solid layer of protection.
Don’t worry though, there are plenty of other things you can do to minimize EMF radiation exposure that is pet specific.
Testing, testing 1,2,3!
You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know that there is one.
An excellent place to start is to test your house for EMF levels. Every home is different, some of us are more device heavy than others so we’ll all have to take different methods to protect our home. By measuring the EMF radiation levels present in your house you can get a thorough breakdown of what your home’s problem areas are so you can make targeted but worthwhile changes.
To do so we recommend using an EMF meter. Considering that we’re specifically talking about your pet, you should take special care to test the areas that your pet frequents. This could be anywhere from their bed, feeding area, litter box, etc. It’s worth checking near that new expensive plant you bought the other day too that your cat loves. (Don’t worry Millennials, we got your back!)
It’s not what you eat, it’s where you eat it.
Given our busy days and complicated mealtime schedules, many of us place our pets’ food bowls in whatever convenient spot is available. For the longest time, I noticed my friends leaving their pets’ food bowls in the kitchen next to the fridge. It made sense, it was convenient, accessible, and allowed your pet to chow down with you. But, a lot of us now have smart fridges which can emit solid levels of EMF radiation that your pet is exposed to while they eat. And if not the fridge it’s somewhere else.
The point is, try to keep food dishes away from electronics or other EMF potent locations. If you have a pet in a cage then it’ll be important to look at their entire living arrangement and move it away from such EMF intense locations. It may take some nudging and even gentle bribery to move your pets from their beloved eating spots but we encourage you to redirect them!
Catching those z’s is key!
Research shows that the average cat or dog sleeps anywhere from 12-14 hours per day, of course, this is dependent on age factors, but there’s no denying that this is a significant amount. You probably often catch your pet snuggling up on top of the wifi router or near the tv but because pets love their sleep it’s important to make sure they’re doing it in a safe place. Using your EMF meter you should scout out a location in your house that has as little EMF radiation as possible and encourage your pet to sleep there instead. In fact, I would highly recommend you to take a second look at your bedroom or sleeping arrangements too.
Sometimes the cuddles aren’t worth it
By now everyone’s figured out that our fluffy pets curling up on our lap make working through the day much easier. The moment you pull out that laptop your pet is running to you, ready to cuddle with the toasty warmth of the computer. It’s cute but it’s not safe. Having such close contact with your laptop can expose them to toxic levels of EMF radiation which can have significant effects later on. The heat generated from your laptop or computer is comfy and warm but it’s dangerous. As the pet owner, it’s important to make sure that your pet stays away no matter how hard it is to resist those big eyes.
Some important notes: make sure to keep an eye out for spots like heaters, car engines, wifi routers, and PC setups. Additionally, if you’re sitting with your laptop on your lap all day it’s worth investing in an EMF radiation protective sleeve since that exposure isn’t good for you either.
Overall, sometimes the cuddles just aren’t worth it in the long run.

Wireless fences are not good boys
Being cooped up in the house all day is less than ideal. Both humans and pets need a nice walk and stretch and maybe even a run to shake out those stiff muscles. Given that there’s not anywhere to go, maybe you’re resorting to your backyard. Chances are to preserve the look of a wide-open yard you’ve installed an invisible fence. Normally, such fences need your dog or other pets to wear special collars so when they get too close or try to pass the boundaries they send a little shock or signal to you.
While they can certainly maintain the aesthetic and keep your dog in, they’re also risky. Since it involves wireless signaling technology, you may be exposing them to more EMF radiation than is safe for their bodies. If you truly do need a fence the real version would serve you better.
Pet jacket is another great solution
You could invest in a protective pet jacket if your pet is the type to tolerate clothing well. Some pets absolutely adore a good sweater or jacket, while others may stop at nothing to get the clothing off of them.
Less EMF makes a small-sized pet jacket intended for cats and dogs under 10 pounds. The jacket is easily washable and closes with a simple velcro fastener on the chest. A protective jacket is an excellent option if certain high-EMF areas are unavoidable for your pet.
Bedtime upgrades
If you have a pet that lives in a cage or uses a crate to sleep, it’s worth investing in some protective fabric to line their sleeping/living space. There are tons of brands and some even offer mesh so you can still have sunlight coming in. The fabric works as a physical buffer that interrupts EMF radiation waves. Whether you want to leave the front of the cage covered or uncovered is up to you. For free mobility, you can opt to leave it up. For full protection, you can leave the cover down providing a 360 degree shield for your special friend.
Additionally, you can also purchase a protective tent bed. They’re exactly what they sound like: a tend made when EMF protective fabric that’s both durable and uber safe. Rather than having to manually roll the fabric down every time, there are two flaps that your pet can easily maneuver, going and coming as they please. Not to mention they create a comfy and dark place to sleep so morning naps aren’t interrupted. If you want to let sunlight in, you could get a protective mesh, such as Blocsilver’s EMF Protection Fabric
